I have been designing and programming web sites since 1994 and have never had a complaint. I am so sure that you will like my work, I guarantee it. If you don't like the web site I design for you, then you don't pay for it!

So many companies use web site design as a sub-service to their main business in an attempt to make more money. Or their main business is web design/hosting/marketing/search engine placement/advertising/bulk emailing... With all their additional services, how much do they specialize in what you really need?
(OK, I host web sites also, but only the ones I design.)

I Tell You My Prices — Without Trying to Confuse You.
The first question I hear from almost every new contact is "How much do you charge?" Have you looked around at other web design firms? How many tell you their prices up front? Most require you to fill out a form to get a quote by email. Others usually have a long menu for every little thing they can do to your site — including fees for each and every graphic, hyperlink, email link, and more. I tell you my prices and I keep it simple.

Now, consider the types of web sites I design:

Sites that function equally well in both Netscape and Internet Explorer.
The two most widely-used web browsers, each of these browsers have proprietary code — code that will only work in its respective browser, often causing errors or odd-looking pages in the other. There are always ways to prevent the other browser from choking on the code, but not everyone bothers.

Sites with original designs.
Many design firms use programs such as Dreamweaver and FrontPage, which come with cookie-cutter templates — just add content. Many firms even tell you to choose from already-designed templates. Ever notice how many sites look alike? I design each web site from scratch, and I will use your logo and colors.

Sites that are backward-compatible.
Many sites offer bleeding-edge technology, but what happens when you visit that site with any web browser other than the absolute latest version? If there's anything to see at all, it's usually a message telling you to download a new browser. Or the site will load, but will not work properly. Are you willing to alienate potential customers, or lose current ones, because they haven't installed the latest software?

Sites that work even without the graphics.
Some people still surf the web at less-than-stellar speeds and disabling graphics is a common way to overcome that limitation. If your site is all graphics, with no text-based menu, then your site may as well be blank to those surfers. If you're using a light-colored font and a dark background, and your background color isn't set equally as dark, the site will be unreadable — most browsers are set to show a white background if nothing else is specified.

Sites that don't misuse frames.
If part of a web site doesn't change, like a navigation menu, framing it may make sense. This way, a surfer to your site won't have to keep reloading the same menu repeatedly, saving time and bandwidth. And when it's time to click around the site, or off to another one, the frames need to be programmed correctly so that they don't become nested, and so that other sites don't become trapped in your frame.

Sites that work!
Ever surf the web and find a page that brings up error messages? Ever surfed with Netscape and found blank pages? The more complex the programming, the more correct it must be. At Great Bird Enterprises, I design from scratch and code by hand — using clean code that saves bandwidth, reducing the download time. I don't rely on web site authoring tools to show me what the site would look like in a mythical browser that doesn't really exist.
